Who we are
Wunder Workshop creates products for the People & Planet. We focus on Consumption With Purpose®, by harvesting the power of regeneratively grown plants for the ultimate wellness rituals. Wunder translates to miracle, and we focus on plants that have a quality that can be classed as such.
Set up by Tom & Zoe in 2014, Wunder Workshop is inspired by intuitive herbalism and Ayurveda - in particular, the preventative and holistic approach that this ancient medical system uses to maintain optimal physical and mental health.
As conscious citizens ourselves, all the decisions we make at Wunder Workshop are based on a set of ethical and sustainable values to promote a transparent relationship between grower and consumer.
In keeping with these values, we source functional ingredients to create products with integrity and purpose. Our full-circle approach to our products, maintains that the farmers, the environment, soil health and our customers are in mind at every stage, from growing to the final sip.
Everything we consume carries a story, from where it was grown, who farmed it and processed it, including how it was packaged. We believe these stories are the most valuable part of the process and connect us to the origin. We believe this should be transparent to all.
We ethically source our organic turmeric and most of our other ingredients directly from small community farms in Sri Lanka that use a sustainable farming technique called Forest Gardening, supporting Sri Lanka's natural biodiversity, soil health, the farmers and the local community. We also source ingredients that are wild-harvested (Fair Wild certified), growing in their natural habitat. We avoid mono-cultural farms wherever possible.
OUR MISSION
- To share the highest quality and sustainably sourced herbs, spices, mushrooms and medicinal plants with our global community.
- To cultivate awareness about where our food comes from and disrupt the outdated spice trading system that ignores the health of the planet and the wellbeing of the farmers.
- To use only sustainable and ethical farming techniques that are good for the grower, environment and consumer. We work with family owned, single-origin farms and small community co-operatives.
- To preserve the ancient and traditional wisdom of medicinal plants, and connect people to this knowledge.
- To educate people about food as a functional tool to enrich our bodies.
- To change the attitude from curing disease to preventing disease.
- To give back to community and the planet. We invest 1% of our yearly revenue into environmental, social and women empowering projects.
NUTRITION EXPERT APPROVED
We believe in consumption with a purpose, and therefore make sure that our products are tested and approved by a nutritional expert, to provide our customers not only with delicious products but with functional products that are an investment into your long-term health.
THIS IS US
Zoë Lind van't Hof / FOUNDER
Zoe learned about health and nutrition from her late mother, who had been in the wellbeing industry for over 40 years. This meant she grew up plant-based, surrounded by botanicals, developing her own intuitive herbalism, foraging and growing organic food was the daily norm. This knowledge and motivation has led her to start up her own business.
Having travelled with her late mother to Sri Lanka to experience and learn more about Ayurveda, Zoe learned about turmeric and its benefits. A couple of years after finishing her Masters degree in International Relations with a thesis on Climate Change, she went back to Sri Lanka to establish a partnership with the suppliers of our most crucial ingredient, Turmeric, and begin her journey to starting Wunder Workshop.
Tom Smale / CO-FOUNDER
Tom came across a significant body of research supporting turmeric and curcumin when studying pharmacology. Seeing the role that plants have in the medical world he was keen to learn more. Plus, having worked in the medical world for a number of years, Tom was convinced that there was a better way to approach our wellbeing.
Speaking about the power of plants and the way they interact with our body is Tom's focus. Using the experience gained in the pharmacological world and a deepening understanding of traditional plant-based remedies, he helps to research ingredients that are functional and effective. Tom is also a passionate plant-based cook, sourdough baking enthusiast and cyclist.
