Wunder Forest Impact Report

Jaguar Siembra

Working with Jaguar Siembra has been a highlight of our Wunder journey. Their passion and commitment given to creating a truly biodiverse and regenerative forest is inspiring.

We have also been so humbled by so many of your kind donations towards planting trees in far off places. These small acts of generosity are literally changing the face of this earth. For this, we thank you wholeheartedly.

This all said, we are delighted to be able to share with you a report on the progress of the ever-growing Wunder Forest (11.14131 - 73.69656) Sierra Nevada, Colombia.

Community

Working directly with the Iku Arhuaco community has provided support for 14 members of the Villafana Crespo family. The tree nursery is a full time occupation and the load is spread between the family. Keeping them close and united with the forest.

Environment

The prime aim of this project is focused on regeneration of deforested zones. 1 hectare has been allocated in this first phase to develop a biodiverse nursery that will support life long into the future.

To date, a total of 1,625 trees have been planted!

Importantly, this is not about planting fast-growing species that can provide lumber later. This is about supporting a diversity of flora and fauna. Key native species that have been planted include the following:

Caney (Aspidosperma spruceanum)
Cacao (Theobroma Cacao)
Oak (Tabebuia rosea)
Caoba (Swietenia macrophylla)

These have been intercropped with food crops such as plantain, yucca and beans, for food security in the community. A number of these trees are now bearing fruit and supporting the family directly.

The Future

Our Wunder Forest keeps growing with your support and a portion of our 1% revenue promise donations. The aim is to enlarge the tree nursery area and incorporate more communities to collaborate in the project.

With time, the cacao that is grown will provide an additional income source for the community and they could become a supplier to Wunder Workshop. This would be a beautiful way for us to be able to offer a better than Fairtrade price directly to them for their cacao.
